TimeQuake. The Imaginati.
“Multiplayer Wizards have saved me thousands on my AWS bill. It was great to work with a team who could give us detailed feedback and advice, and who were really easy to work with. ”
– Martin Alltimes, CEO/Founder, The Imaginati
Challenge
The Imaginati are launching a new IP TimeQuake, a fast-paced FPS which allows you to manipulate time in a war which will determine the fate of the universe. This is Imaginati’s first multiplayer game and they are pushing boundaries with some innovative game mechanics; reversing time to manipulate the world around the raging battle. As this is the Imaginati’s first multiplayer title, they needed some expert advice to help plan and optimise their multiplayer infrastructure.
Why us
As a small studio working on an ambitious project, the Imaginati wanted to spend their valuable engineering time working on making the game as polished as possible. Without inhouse expertise launching multiplayer games, they contacted Multiplayer Wizards and we stepped in to assist and give them some support with their pre-launch planning and optimisation
Solution
Scout is Multiplayer Wizards’ full infrastructure review product. We deep-dived into the infrastructure they were testing on Amazon GameLift and made recommendations for improving the setup ready for the game’s launch. We performed a full health-check, testing its latency and packet loss tolerance, making note of how much compute and networking resources it was using. We used this data to project launch costs whilst optimising instance size and GameLift setup. Lastly, we delivered the launch plan, suggesting which regions and locations should be used for launch, ideal quota, and capacity settings.
Outcome
Multiplayer Wizards produced a full report for the Imaginati, which resulted in over 25 recommendations for improving their gameserver architecture. One of the key recommendations focused on instance sizing, which after our gameserver profiling, we helped to optimise. Based on their projected post-launch player numbers, this will save Imaginati around 25% of their hosting costs per year. As you can imagine, Imaginati were very pleased with the result!
